Our client, a college-preparatory public charter school in Harlem, seeks a visionary and highly effective Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for overall administration and management of the school, including creating and driving an academic vision that is in line with the charter and leads students to extraordinary success, managing and developing senior staff, overseeing programmatic and financial operations, collaborating with the Board of Directors, and providing strategic direction and execution for the continued growth and strong academic outcomes. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. This is a full-time, exempt position located in New York City.
The school provides a rigorous, standards-based college preparatory curriculum, intensive interventions for students who are performing below grade level, a defined character development program, and extensive leadership development and community service opportunities in an ordered, structured and disciplined learning environment. The school opened in the fall of 2008 and currently serves students in grades 5 through 8.
Responsibilities:
Educational Leadership
-
Creates and drives an overall academic vision that will lead students to extraordinary academic success
-
Provides instructional leadership to advance teaching and learning practices
-
Manages and develops senior staff performance and team-building through collaborative goal-setting, coaching and assistance and related support
-
Guides curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
-
Facilitate data-driven discussions and planning regarding student performance
-
Ensures academic program is being implemented and is aligned with performance goals as outlined by the charter and makes adjustments to program as necessary
Communications and Outreach
-
Serves as primary liaison to the PTA, Board of Directors, and state and city agencies
-
Partners with parents and the community to establish and grow engagement and support
-
Works closely with Board of Directors on issues of governance and strategic development

Serves as key spokesperson for the school

Collaborates with appropriate constituent groups to strategically plan in the areas of student achievement, curriculum selection, strategic planning, organizational structure, and human capital
Administrative and Financial Leadership

Oversees programmatic, financial and compliance operations

Supervises day to day operations of the school

Identifies and secures resources to support programmatic, capital, financial and human resource needs

Drives vision of human capital, including recruitment, selection, evaluation, and accountability

Ensures compliance with all statutory regulations and requirements
Qualifications:

Experience elevating student achievement as principal or senior instructional leader in an urban, public school
-
Deep commitment to high performance standards and an unwavering belief that all students can achieve
-
Excellent management skills, including the emotional intelligence required to work effectively with diverse leaders and teams, developing and enhancing their capabilities
-
Deep strategic planning and execution abilities, including the ability to articulate a vision, create a roadmap to execution, and establish milestones along the way

Significant knowledge of pedagogy and a proven track record of using data to drive results

Strong operations and financial management experience

Exceptional written and verbal communication
-
Demonstrated ability to set a vision and invest and lead others to achieve that vision

Personal presence and integrity that inspires confidence and passion

The persistence, grit, and entrepreneurial spirit necessary to lead the school to realizing ambitious goals in a short period of time
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
