Global Citizen Year - Vice President of Marketing and Communications
Global Citizen Year seeks an entrepreneurial marketing and communications professional with a proven track record in online marketing and campaign development to drive student recruitment and position Global Citizen Year as a household name and respected brand. Working closely with a team of associates and external partners, the Vice President of Marketing & Communications will oversee the planning and implementation of Global Citizen Year’s student marketing, media, & PR strategies. S/he will have the unique opportunity to help Global Citizen Year accelerate its reach and impact through strategic publicity, partnerships, social media, and grassroots campaigns.
The Vice President of Marketing & Communications will report directly to the CEO and have two initial direct reports. As a member of the Global Citizen Year leadership team s/he will have regular interactions with the organization’s Funders, Board, and Advisors.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Vice President of Marketing & Communications will lead all aspects of Global Citizen Year’s strategic communications and will have primary responsibility for the following:

Fellow marketing: Drive campaigns to accelerate recruitment of Fellows across target demographics (socio-economic, geographic, etc.)

Organizational communications: Own all communications functions to develop a strong and consistent brand.

Media, PR & Partnerships: Lead strategic media relations to accelerate visibility and brand recognition.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate for this position is a results-oriented, creative professional with a minimum of 10 years of marketing experience, designing, and managing effective multi-media marketing campaigns.
Strong candidates will have a demonstrated track record in each of the following areas:

Developing and executing effective marketing targeting millennials and/or high school students.

Raising the awareness of a young brand across different channels and generating acceptance around a novel concept.

Driving customer acquisition campaigns, preferably online.

Successfully executing grassroots campaigns with viral marketing components.

Overseeing the design of creative collateral (annual reports, brochures) and online media assets (i.e. websites, videos, online marketing campaigns etc.)
Successful candidates will also possess the following skills:

Mission-driven: Demonstrated commitment to the mission and vision of Global Citizen Year.

Exceptional communicator: Able to create messages which resonate with diverse audiences. Extreme social and media-savvy, with in-depth knowledge of digital and social media.

Analytical project manager: Ability to analyze information effectively to stay on top of multiple projects, plan backwards and anticipate obstacles, identify and involve stakeholders appropriately, and use resources wisely to realize goals.

Resourceful self-starter: Displays an entrepreneurial spirit and thrives in a fast-pace, start-up environment; is comfortable with ambiguity, rapid change and able to troubleshoot independently while continually building capacity and improving processes.
The following are strongly preferred:

Firm experience: Worked for a global marketing firm or as a marketing lead of a global company, especially in e-commerce.

Campaign experience: Experience leading political, advocacy, or fundraising campaigns using both traditional media and online channels.

Creative thinker: Someone that can think outside the box, and reach our target audience in the most effective way, making smart use of the resources available.

Education: Advanced marketing or business degree (MBA preferred).
POSITION DETAILS
Compensation: Competitive salary (commensurate with experience) and comprehensive benefits package.
