Near East Foundation - Director of Development
Resourceful, energetic development professionals with proven success in goal achievement are invited to apply for the position of Director of Development of the Near East Foundation (NEF). This is a unique opportunity to lead philanthropy and have an influential voice in the evolution of the United States’ oldest, non-sectarian international development NGO. Founded in 1915 and with headquarters in Syracuse, NY, NEF impacts tens of thousands of people every year through programs in the Middle East and Africa.
As the NEF’s chief development officer, the Director is responsible for conceiving and implementing strategies to increase philanthropic support and build the NEF’s overall fund raising capacity, with an emphasis on expanding the donor base, increasing endowment, and planning a campaign to commemorate NEF’s centennial. The Director’s responsibilities also include coordinating development operations; serving as a member of NEF’s senior management team; providing direction and support to the Board’s development committee; designing the President’s development agenda; and being an articulate, persuasive advocate for NEF.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated strategic thinking skills aligned with the ability to implement and follow through; the ability to conceptualize, ask for, negotiate, and secure six and seven figure gifts; to identify, engage, cultivate and steward wealthy individuals and corporate leaders; and to maintain an appropriate balance between administrative duties and actively working prospects. He or she will also possess an understanding of the full range of development programs including annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, donor stewardship, special events and volunteer management.
Requirements for the position include: a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of seven years of major gift development experience, the ability to travel frequently and to maintain high ethical and professional standards. An interest in international affairs, as well as prior experience with NGOs, campaigns and corporate fund raising is preferred.
