To direct regional activities as part of PETA's diverse outreach programs
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Recruit and direct activists to help achieve the goals of PETA's outreach program
- Represent PETA to the media and the general public
- Maintain regular records and calendars of scheduled events
- Generate a visible presence outside popular tourist attractions and at well-attended events
- Research and develop opportunities to promote PETA's programs and presence
- Keep informed about local and national news stories and develop plans based on them to increase media coverage of PETA campaigns
- Organize and take part in media outreach, celebrity engagement, demonstrations, exhibits, street theater, food sales, giveaways, and other types of appearances at festivals and events
- Maintain the inventory of PETA's "Animal Liberation" booklet and vegetarian/vegan starter kit distribution stands and maintain and stock selected stands
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of two years of activist experience
- Prior experience in project development
- Proven thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
- Proven exceptional public-speaking skills
- Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
