NCJW seeks a full-time Associate Director of its Washington office, working with the Director of Washington Operations. This management position is the senior lobbying position in the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities

Take the lead on NCJW’s lobbying work in Washington, DC, supervising legislative team and representing NCJW on the Hill and with the Administration where appropriate

Work closely with Director of Washington Operations on all aspects of managing the work of the Washington office, serving as acting director as necessary

Advocate on the following issues: budget and taxes, health care, violence against women, work-family and human needs issues. Lobbying decision makers, writing related materials, alerting NCJW grassroots and other activities as needed
- Supervise, evaluate, and participate in hiring legislative staff and work with them to plan and implement strategies to advance issues related to NCJW’s Mission
- Represent NCJW at meetings with government officials, organizations, and coalition partners as needed.
- Coordinate with headquarters Communications staff about website, ensuring that public policy portions of the website are up-to-date, editing and posting alerts and other web updates
- Serve as primary editor for written policy materials, including action alerts, internal publications, testimony and talking points
- Coordinate with grassroots staff to ensure a seamless effort to engage NCJW members, sections, and supporters in advancing NCJW’s issue agenda
- Participate in training for NCJW leadership and grassroots on general advocacy and in reference to assigned issues and speak to NCJW sections and gatherings
- Assume staff leadership for programmatic campaigns as assigned and consult on campaign development and implementation
- Assume a leadership role with Director on staffing at NCJW events such as convention and Washington Institute as assigned
- Assist with other NCJW projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Graduate degree preferred
- At least 7 years public policy and congressional lobbying experience
- Supervisory and managerial experience
- Strong writing ability, social media, and web skills (experience with Convio a plus)
- Knowledge of the Jewish community and specified issue portfolio a plus
- Ability to work in a team, good public speaking skills, strong people skills
- Experience working with volunteers or membership preferred
