STAND! For Families Free of Violence - Community Education Coordinator

STAND! For Families Free of Violence’s integrated approach to domestic violence and child abuse services uniquely situates us to take the lead in addressing the complex dynamics of violence within families. About the Community Education Coordinator The Community Education Coordinator facilitates parenting education classes, including classes for teen parents aged 14-25 involved in the County Probation system, and classes for Children and Family Services clients. The aim of these classes is to increase the confidence and skills of participants in parenting their children. This position is also responsible for coordinating county wide efforts to engage men in preventing family violence.

Currently, this position works 24 hours per week; however, please note that 8 of those hours are temporary, to cover leave.

The Community Education Coordinator conducts outreach to engage parents in the program, and delivers the program to participants. The Coordinator will facilitate classes; keeping the group atmosphere positive and supportive, and is responsible for keeping their curriculum up to date, for conducting pre and post-tests, completing attendance information and all paperwork, and entering data into a database.

This position also provides case management services to participants, based on their service plan. This will include liaising with other service providers and making reports as necessary.

The Coordinator’s work engaging men in the issue of family violence prevention, will involve working with the Contra Costa County-wide program “Domestic violence prevention Enhancements and Leadership Through Alliances” – DELTA. The DELTA Project’s mission is to build the community’s capacity to prevent domestic violence before it begins. The Coordinator will coordinate monthly meeting for this project’s participants and the annual Men of Merit event.

The ideal candidate for any position at STAND! For Families Free of Violence is a good team player, resourceful, dependable, ethical and resilient. This candidate will also be able to communicate effectively and demonstrate initiative, good judgment and passion for helping others.

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience facilitating groups or related work experience
  • Experience with adult learning theory
  • Understanding of evidence-based services and pre-post testing approaches
  • Knowledge of parenting issues and positive parenting techniques
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to sustain a flexible work schedule primarily evening hours with some daytime for trainings, meetings, classes
  • Ability to work with under-served populations and difficult to engage clients

We consider the following as basic requirements for employment with us:

  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to maintain shelter-site confidentiality
  • Understanding of the Agency’s mission and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients in all circumstances
  • Employment contingent upon clear fingerprint and criminal history record
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of U.S. Department of Justice Form I-9
  • Continued employment contingent upon successful completion of the agency's mission-related, required training
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially using Outlook, Word, Excel and customized databases
  • Reliable vehicle, valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and proof of insurance (MVR will be run prior to hire and periodically thereafter)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Registered Nurse or Social Work
  • Fluent in Spanish (oral) and English
  • Successful completion of Parent Education training

Compensation and Benefits: The hourly rate for this position is $15.50 to $16.38. At 24 hours per week, of which 8 of those hours are temporary, this position does not carry eligibility for benefits.
