KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. Responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Coordinates with department heads to address the reporting needs of each area and program of the organization. This position operates under tight deadlines and a wide range of accounting activities including bookkeeping, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and budget preparation. The Accounting Manager will have contact with board members, the executive director, and high profile individuals who require strong interpersonal communication skills.
POSITION SUMMARY
- Responsible for all aspects of the accounting cycle, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Bank Reconciliations, and General Ledger maintenance
- Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close
- Serves as liaison to consultants for audit and 990 preparation
- Responsible for the development of the annual budget and forecasts
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
- Responsible for monitoring cash flow of the organization and programs
- Ensures the timely reporting of all monthly financial information, including reconciliation between QuickBooks and Raiser’s Edge
- Responsible for entering the bi-monthly payroll and benefit changes
- Collaborates with department heads to support overall department goals and objectives
- Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Works with the staff to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
- Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
- Provides training to new and existing staff as it relates to the accounting functions
- Responds to inquiries from the Executive Director and department heads regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
- Accepts other duties or special projects as assigned by the Executive Director
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
- Five to seven years experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area
- Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-pace setting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office required, especially Microsoft Excel
- Experience working for a non-profit organization is preferred
- Experience with QuickBooks and/or Raiser’s Edge is a plus
- Knowledge of the film industry is a plus
