Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History - Development Officer
Founded in 1994 by Richard Gilder and Lewis E. Lehrman, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity devoted to the improvement of history education. The Institute has developed programs for schools, teachers, and students that now operate in all fifty states, including a website that features the more than 60,000 unique historical documents in the Gilder Lehrman Collection. Each year the Institute offers support and resources to tens of thousands of teachers, and through them enhances the education of more than a million students. The Institute’s programs have been recognized by awards from the White House, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Organization of American Historians.
Gilder Lehrman is looking for an organized, motivated development officer to coordinate the organization’s fundraising efforts. Excellent compensation and benefits package available; salary commensurate with experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Stewardship and Gift Solicitation: Cultivate relationships with a portfolio of current donors, serving as primary point of contact to the organization, and solicit and close gifts to the organization. Identify new prospective major donors and strategies for developing their interest into action.

Work closely with President, Executive Director, and other senior staff: to strategize and follow through on development leads.

Grant Management and Reporting: Write detailed reports for donors on funded programs, and coordinate with educational program and finance departments to ensure effective and timely implementation of programs.

Prospect Research: Identify and research potential funding sources, including foundations, corporations, and individuals.

Gift Processing: Acknowledgement letters and data entry into Exceed database for all donations.

Donation Appeals: Coordinate targeted mailings to current and prospective donors

Event Management: Work with program staff to coordinate guest lists and other responsibilities related to fundraising events, including an annual gala, and book prize award dinners.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree
-
2 to 5 years fundraising experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified
