Silicon Valley Community Foundation - Vice President of Business Services

The Business Services Department is responsible for providing philanthropic consulting services to companies in Silicon Valley and around the world by developing their grant making and employee engagement programs in order to further their corporate social responsibility goals. Last year, the business services team facilitated over $27 million in grants that were awarded to non-profit organizations in 26 countries. Leading a team of nine professionals, the vice president of business services oversees the department and its work while also participating as a member of Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s management team. Reporting to the chief business, development and brand officer, the vice president of business services leads the corporate engagement work of SVCF. (FULL TIME/EXEMPT)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In partnership with the division chief, design the strategy for building business relationships with corporations.
  • Lead the Business Services Department and implement business services strategies.
  • Work closely with the Development Department to support the strategy to acquire new corporate relationships.
  • Oversee the coordination of work with all departments supporting the work of business services.
  • Provide leadership in working with Corporate Advised Fund (CAF) advisors and Customized Philanthropy Services (CPS) clients to develop short- and long-term strategies.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to connect corporations whenever possible to SVCF programs, initiatives and grantmaking strategies.
  • Deepen business services relationships and ensure consistent world-class services for all business services clients.
  • Be a knowledge and thought leader of current trends and cutting edge opportunities within corporate philanthropy and CSR.
  • When applicable, actively manage the CAF’s grantmaking program by reviewing proposals, writing summaries and making recommendations.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate conferences, events, networks to establish significant positioning in the CSR field and as a representative of SVCF.
  • Participate as a member of SVCF’s leadership team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in a field relevant to community work (Public Policy or Administration, Sociology, Education, Public Health, Law, Social Welfare or a related discipline) or comparable community experience preferred.
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience in CSR and its related disciplines for community-based organizations, corporations and/or foundations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as analytical skills.
  • Excellent collaborative and team based skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Significant experience working directly with corporate donors and strong familiarity with corporate culture.
  • Experience as a grantmaker and knowledge of best grantmaking practices highly desirable.
  • Strong experience managing staff, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong software skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook. Blackbaud experience desirable.
  • Significant knowledge of and experience of the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties nonprofit ecosystem.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work with diverse people and in diverse groups.
  • Ability to approach situations and challenges with a sense of humor.
