Immediate Opening:
The New Press seeks an experienced, dynamic and entrepreneurial Grants Manager to support The Press’s growing development team and to bring the grants program to the next level. As the day-to-day operational lead for institutional fundraising, the Grants Manager manages New Press-wide grants efforts and is responsible for securing support from foundations to meet the organization’s operating needs. In addition to conducting prospect research, writing, and managing grant proposals, the Grants Manager assists in planning and budget development and develops other materials as needed. This position reports to the Development Director.

Successful candidates will be thoughtful and creative, able to identify ways to match the programs, books, and activities of The New Press with potential foundation funders. Preferred candidates will also have an interest in and commitment to the ideals of The New Press, a not-for-profit, public interest publisher.
In order to succeed in a vibrant, intellectually-engaged and collaborative environment, this position requires exceptional organizational skills, diplomacy, attention to detail, pro-activeness, and a high energy level. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with foundation stakeholders, and will be a central part of the team that meets with foundation stakeholders.
Responsibilities include working with Development and other departments to accomplish the goals and objectives of the position. Duties include (but are not limited to) the following:

Managing, overseeing, and executing The New Press’s foundation fundraising plan with a goal of raising at least $800,000 a year from public and private foundations in support of The New Press’s charitable mission.

Maintaining relationships with existing foundation donors, which include a variety of large and small foundations and multiple stakeholders within each foundation.

Identifying, researching, and cultivating new (and lapsed) foundation donors for unrestricted and restricted support.

Meeting with foundation staff in conjunction with the Executive Director, Editorial Director, editorial staff, and Development Director.

Writing and coordinating foundation proposals, in conjunction with other members of the fundraising team, for specific book projects as well as general operating support.

Reporting on all foundation grants in a thorough and timely fashion.

Working with Development Director to develop and manage budget projections.

Other development/fundraising responsibilities as assigned.
This position requires the following capabilities:

Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
-
Ability to work as part of a team and independently, effectively managing multiple projects, tasks and deadlines.

Proven track record with proposal writing for institutional donors.

Proficiency with fundraising techniques, strategies, and sources.
-
Knowledge and familiarity with prospect research techniques.

Experience with budget development and monitoring.
-
Foreign languages a plus.
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of five years’ experience with grant writing and management. Candidates should also have an interest in and commitment to the ideals and mission of The New Press.
