Assistant Marketing Manager/Web Programmer

The Russell Sage Foundation, the principal American foundation devoted exclusively to research in the social sciences (www.russellsage.org) , seeks a full-time assistant book marketing manager with excellent web programming experience. Under the supervision of the foundation’s director of communications, this position will be responsible for the sales, promotion, and general marketing of approximately 20 new books a year. Book marketing responsibilities include handling all direct mail promotions, catalog production, advertising, and book review mailings; corresponding with authors on book promotion campaigns; and maintaining and updating customer, reviewer, and press contacts database. As part of the foundation’s ongoing effort to enhance on-line presence and digital content available on its website, this position will also be responsible for handling all technical aspects of the website. In this capacity, the successful candidate will work closely with the foundation’s website editor to ensure that RSF-supported research is accurately presented in accessible text, graphic, and video formats, and on the formatting and distribution of the foundation’s monthly on-line newsletter.

The ideal candidate will possess a B.A. in a relevant field, at least 2 years of book marketing experience, a strong background in website management (experience/knowledge of Drupal platform preferred), a firm understanding of internet trends and technology and social media, some graphic design training/experience, and the ability to work independently and take initiative on new marketing ideas and web projects. This position provides an extraordinary opportunity for a marketing professional with strong web experience to play a key role in shaping the Foundation’s internet presence.
