Direct Marketing Associate

GLSEN - Direct Marketing Associate

Reports to: Senior Director of Development

Objective: The Direct Marketing Associate will develop a direct marketing strategy to support and achieve the organization's goals and objectives, and will work with other departments to develop effective direct response campaigns. The Direct Marketing Associate is responsible for evaluating the success of various fundraising campaigns, calculating the cost per inquiry, sales and ROI. Further, this position oversees acquisition, cultivation and stewardship of all donors under $1200.

Responsibilities:

  • Grow revenue and increase net income from direct marketing programs;
  • Create direct marketing strategies and messages to support and achieve our goals and objectives;
  • Measure the effectiveness of direct marketing campaigns;
  • Leads direct marketing efforts for new strategic marketing programs;
  • Establish close and strategic advisory partnerships with key department managers;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver solutions that maximize ROI on the marketing investment;
  • Identify and create ways to utilize data to streamline various marketing efforts and organization processes;
  • Work with management to develop direct marketing strategies to continue the growth and success of donor retention;
  • Drafting and editing of direct response campaigns;
  • Manage in-house CRM database ensuring data integrity;
  • Mine patron database for marketing intelligence insights;
  • Support the development of a database/audience segmentation strategy across all channels of the business;
  • Identify Direct Marketing donors that are potential Major Donors;
  • Establish a tracking process and monitor campaign milestones in order to provide pre- and post-campaign reporting analysis; and,
  • Utilize database knowledge to analyze program results to provide recommendations for next steps/roll-outs.

Required Skills

  • Experience working across direct marketing platforms
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with social media such as Facebook and Twitter and their uses in fundraising
  • Ability to be diplomatic, resolve conflict, and problem-solve
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up
  • Database methodology
  • B.A. or equivalent work experience and two or three years work in related field

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of direct marketing best practices
  • Experience working with outside vendors and contractors
  • Experience writing and editing direct marketing appeals & acquisitions
  • Experience with database management
  • Raiser’s Edge experience a plus

This position is located in GLSEN's New York City headquarters.
