Housing Works - Director of Major Gifts
Housing Works is the nation’s largest minority-controlled AIDS service organization and the largest provider of housing, health care and job training to homeless people with AIDS. The agency’s innovative approach to housing and service coupled with its successful advocacy on behalf of its constituency is the nation’s model for attacking the dual crises of AIDS and homelessness.
Founded in 1990 as an outgrowth of the AIDS coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP), Housing Works has a 2013 operating budget of $58 million and a staff of over 400 supplemented by 300 volunteers. Governed by a 21-person Board of Directors, which includes client, staff and volunteer representatives, Housing Works is the agency of last resort for many, providing housing and supportive services to New Yorkers traditionally deemed “hardest to serve.” After two decades of successful growth, Housing Works remains committed to its activist origin as a passionate advocate for its clients. This philosophy and an ongoing commitment to assertive activism on behalf of its clients are principles which guide the organization and its dedicated professional staff.
