Reporting to the Director for Annual Fund Programs in the Office of Alumni and Development, the Assistant Director (copy writer) is an important member of the Annual Fund Programs team.
The Assistant Director will assist in the planning, implementation, and management of annual fund solicitations for various schools and/or programs. The primary responsibility for this position will be to interview signatories, draft copy, edit written copy and review live proofs. This individual will work with multiple internal constituents and vendors as direct marketing projects are brought to completion.
The ideal candidate will be deadline driven with strong writing skills and an intense attention to detail. In addition, this individual will be proactive in client and vendor management, anticipate problems that may arise and quickly and independently resolve unforeseen situations along the way. Projects may involve copy writing for print, web and phone in addition to coordination and oversight of projects, depending on the needs of the office at the time.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Research, interview, draft, edit and finalize annual giving copy for mail, email, online and phone.

Ensure messages align with messaging at the School and University level.

Assist in the development and implement comprehensive and integrated direct marketing solicitation strategies to secure gift income for various annual funds at Columbia University through mail, phone and electronic communication.

Draft, edit and finalize copy for annual fund program newsletters, website, etc.

Prepare, execute and track assigned projects coordinating with internal and external vendors within agreed upon timeline.

Analyze and report ROI and cost-benefit analysis of direct marketing projects.

Understand database processes for capturing gift, demographic, and other data.

May perform additional duties as required.
