Direct Relief International - Manager, Program and Resource Development

The Program & Resource Development Manager will be responsible for researching funding prospects from private foundations and corporations, developing and submitting quality grant applications, and cultivating and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. Candidate must be a motivated self-starter and take initiative to move projects ahead and accomplish tasks. This position will be responsible for writing proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant-funded projects. Grants will have clear and measurable goals, objectives, and outcomes. The Program & Resource Development Manager will responsible for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding existing funders and new prospects. This position will have knowledge of data tracking software and use it appropriately to track grantor information. Knowledge of the U.S. healthcare safety net and international health issues a plus.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all job functions that may be required to be performed by this position. Other comparable duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

1. Manage corporate/foundation relationships and pitch programs for funding

  • Identify, cultivate, and steward corporate and business CSR (corporate social responsibility) officers to determine funding match with appropriate Direct Relief programs
  • Personally manage relationships and solicitation process for select corporate and foundation prospects
  • Cultivate corporate and foundation relationships through in-person meetings, facility tours and general communication
  • Provide thoughtful, consistent and appropriate stewardship
  • Focus on developing strategies for corporate solicitations
  • Collaborate on cause-related marketing opportunities and corporate donor publicity activities
  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to identify and evaluate prospects for foundation/corporate funding, including utilization of The Foundation Center Directory Online and Foundation Search databases

2. Write grant proposals, reports, and other persuasive programmatic documents

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals
  • Write, adapt and edit proposals, letters, and concept papers for existing and new projects and programs
  • Understand technology systems to able to seek and obtain data, and also track actions
  • Work with finance department to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors
  • Provide stewardship to current corporate and foundation donors, including regular written updates
  • Maintain current records in Raiser's Edge and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting
  • Assist in the editing and proofreading of a selected number of internal documents and publications
  • Conduct interdepartmental meetings to identify and prioritize project needs, coordinate and research grant preparation assignments
  • Edit draft applications for accuracy, completeness and clarity and submittal of all applications in accordance with grant requirements
  • Review revenues and expenditures, project status, to ensure proper expenditures are made for grant projects

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience with writing grant applications, business proposals, and/or responses to RFPs
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to get in front of large companies/ foundations to pitch program ideas in a persuasive manner
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining grant funding from a variety of sources (both foundation and corporate)
  • Motivated, self-starter who takes initiative
  • Strong editing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects
  • Knowledge of grant application process and writing of applications
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor with an aptitude for analytical thinking and problem-solving
  • Responsible, well organized, and demonstrate initiative
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to develop, write and implement strategic plans and ability to provide necessary documentation to support grant requirements
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate a variety of data
