Development Director

Variety the Children’s Charity of New York is part of an international organization, with 50 chapters in 14 countries. Variety’s roots in the entertainment industry are reflected in both its fundraising and grant-making. Our mission is to “support grassroots non-profit organizations in the Tri-state area whose programs use the arts as a catalyst to transform the lives of under-served children.”

Position

Variety the Children’s Charity of New York is seeking a full time Development Director to provide strategic direction and leadership for Variety New York’s fund development. The Development Director will be responsible for all fundraising efforts of the organization including managing major fundraising campaigns, planning and overseeing all special fundraising events, prospect research, and donor cultivation. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement an annual fundraising plan, including identification of donors and partners, creation of innovative outreach programs and conducting research.
• Manage the planning and implementation of several major annual fundraising campaigns and events including: film screenings, the wishing well campaign with movie theaters, cocktail receptions, and the holiday party.
• Develop and lead new event strategies to raise funds and build prospects.
• Prospect and manage outreach to corporate donors.
• Identify and cultivate relationships with individuals, foundations, corporate groups and other funding resources.
• Manage cause-related marketing initiatives and volunteer programs with our grantees.
• Oversee all donor correspondence and the donor database.
• Assist in other areas as needed.

Qualifications

• Passionate about Variety the Children’s Charity of New York’s mission.
• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience with fundraising and proven success in development.
• Extremely organized and detail oriented. Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Work well in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
• Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects and events including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, tracking and reporting on progress to Executive Director/Board of Directors.
• Take initiative and actively seek out opportunities to deepen current donor relationships and build new ones.
• Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising and events.

Strong people skills and experience in establishing and cultivating excellent relationships with colleagues, partners, donors and supporters.
