ALIVE! - Director of Development
ALIVE! (Alexandrians InVolved Ecumenically) is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial development professional to serve as its Director of Development. The position is offered as a 30 to 40 hours per week position.
This non-profit, a collaboration of 42 faith communities in Alexandria, Virginia, was founded in 1969. ALIVE!’s mission is, with faith and love, to help children, adults and families faced with emergency situations or long-term needs become capable of assuming self-reliant roles in the community. ALIVE! is the largest private safety net for those in need in the City of Alexandria.
Two of our programs are staffed by professional employees and volunteers operate the remaining programs. ALIVE! expects to generate revenues of approximately $1.8 million (including in-kind donations) in FY13. For more information, please visit www.ALIVE-Inc.org.
Position
Reporting to and working in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development Director (Director) will spearhead development efforts as ALIVE! continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the Director will have the opportunity to continue to build the development function along with ALIVE!’s Development Council, the fundraising committee of the Board of Directors.
The Director manages the development and implementation of annual fundraising activities, is directly responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual and corporate donors. The Director works with staff and volunteers to expand ALIVE!’s entire network of prospects and donors and identifies opportunities for increased contributed support, including from congregations and foundations, and manages activities such as events and workplace giving (e.g., United Way, Combined Federal Campaign).
Primary Responsibilities

Develop and execute ALIVE’s annual and long-range development planning

Cultivate and solicit support from individuals, congregations, foundations, associations and corporations

Manage the eTapestry database, oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing, and ensure that the database is being used effectively

Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors

Create and execute a strategy for increasing and maintaining a substantial and long-lasting base of annual individual donors

Oversee organization of special events

Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising

Oversee the work of development contract efforts
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
-
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills

Minimum of 3 years of relevant development experience

Demonstrated track record of soliciting and closing five figure gifts

Demonstrated fundraising campaign success

Knowledge of development principles and best practices, including donor databases is essential. Experience with eTapestry is desired

Familiarity with the City of Alexandria community (philanthropic individuals, businesses, non-profits and faith-based organizations) is desired
