Home Preservation Center Director

The Coalition for a Better Acre (CBA) is a membership-based community development corporation dedicated to resident empowerment and sustainable community revitalization for current and future residents of Lowell and the Merrimack Valley. We promote healthy, vibrant neighborhoods by developing resident leaders, affordable housing and economic opportunities, and by responding to community needs through collective action.

Program Description

CBA’s Home Preservation Center (HPC) helps homeowners examine their options when facing a foreclosure situation through an array of comprehensive mortgage default prevention services. The HPC offers financial counseling, access to community resources, help working with mortgage companies, information about the foreclosure process, and can help clients access other types of financial assistance. In addition, the HPC offers post-purchase education for area homeowners. The curriculum of our classes for homeowners includes money management, budget review, credit review, financial planning, insurance coverage needs,

banking and loan programs, home maintenance, energy savings and “going green” tips.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Interviews clients in a confidential manner to obtain basic information about the clients and their housing needs or problems. Assists clients in creating and analyzing a household budget. Evaluates clients’ eligibility for loss mitigation options and other alternatives to avoid foreclosure.
• Applies a working knowledge of applicable mortgage and real estate laws and regulations. Effectively communicates complex information regarding foreclosures and the alternatives to foreclosure.
• Negotiates with lenders and other creditors on behalf of clients.
• Refers clients to appropriate resources and ensures application for funds/ assistance have been made.
• Negotiates workout agreements and coordinates multi-organizational efforts to assist clients.
• Monitors clients’ progress toward meeting their housing needs or problems.
• Originates applications for foreclosure prevention loans, as applicable.
• Supervises the administrative staff assigned to the program and ensure that all files and record keeping are done in compliance with CBA’s and the funders’ requirements.
• Coordinates and oversees post-purchase classes offered by CBA.
• Under the direction of the Deputy Director, assists in reporting of client data and outcomes per funders’ requirements.
• Initiative new programmatic goals and initiatives.
• Supervises staff and volunteers assigned to the HPC; recruits volunteers.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to work well with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing
• Knowledge concerning issues facing clients and communities served by CBA
• Knowledge of mortgage and/or Real estate financing and closings

Knowledge of foreclosure prevention counseling practices and HopeLoan Port a bonus.

Reports to CBA Deputy Director.
