Development Writer, National Trust for Historic Preservation

Job Summary:

Work closely with Director of Development Communications and other Development Division staff to produce highly-customized acknowledgement letters for major donors. Position also contributes to donor solicitations and reports, cultivation and stewardship materials, and other Executive-level correspondence. Manages gift acknowledgement process for major gift portfolio and provides editorial assistance on fundraising communications projects as assigned.

Duties:

  • Write, edit, and produce personalized and compelling acknowledgement letters, solicitations, stewardship reports, and other Executive-level correspondence in support of major gift fundraising program at the National Trust.
  • Manage day-to-day administration of the acknowledgement process for all major gifts.
  • Collaborate closely with Major Gift Officers and other fundraising staff to strategize and prepare tailored fundraising materials that advance donor cultivation.
  • Produce donor profiles for National Trust’s annual report and contribute to development of other marketing and cultivation materials.
  • Implement donor component of Executive team’s stakeholder communications strategy.
  • Canvass the organization’s print and electronic media to ensure that timely program and project updates are distributed effectively to major donors.
  • Oversee philanthropy section of organization’s website.
  • Provide editorial assistance to Resource Development staff and contribute to other special projects (e.g., presentations, talking points), as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years professional experience, with at least 2-3 years of related experience in a fundraising setting
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills; experience writing to engage culturally diverse audiences and/or about diverse projects a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to synthesize complex ideas into coherent and compelling written communications
  • Project management and organizational skills
  • Candidate must be deadline oriented and have demonstrated success in independently managing various projects with conflicting deadline
