ABOUT STORYCORPS: StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives. Founded in 2003 by radio documentary producer and MacArthur Fellow Dave Isay, StoryCorps has recorded and archived over 40,000 interviews from more than 70,000 participants. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. We have visited all 50 states, partnered with hundreds of community organizations across the country, and earned two Peabody Awards (including a rare Institutional Peabody Award), the highest honor in broadcast journalism. Millions listen to our weekly broadcasts on NPR’s Morning Edition, our weekly podcasts on iTunes, and the stories posted on the Listen pages of our website. Our animations have been featured on PBS’s flagship documentary series POV and the YouTube homepage and were nominated for an Emmy. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Senior Coordinator reports to the Manager, Mobile and is a senior member of the Mobile Department, which oversees the operations of the national Mobile Tour. MobileBooths are recording studios housed in Airstream trailers; there is currently one touring MobileBooth, which operates year-round, making 4-6 week tour stops in towns and cities across the country, partnering with local public radio stations or other host partners during each tour stop.
The Senior Coordinator is based in StoryCorps’ Brooklyn headquarters, but travels to each tour location in advance of the MobileBooth’s arrival to meet with the host partner, local community groups, and other affiliated parties to ensure successful execution of the tour stop. The Senior Coordinator also manages site-specific planning and troubleshooting for the MobileBooth, and oversees the Booth’s stay in each town and its transition from town to town.
The Senior Coordinator supervises one Mobile Facilitator, an Outreach Coordinator and two Mobile Interns, all of whom are also based in StoryCorps’ Brooklyn headquarters.
StoryCorps is committed to telling stories from a wide range of voices—from our Griot Initiative, a program dedicated to recording the stories of African Americans to our Historias Initiative, a program dedicated to recording the stories of Latinos. Candidates with work experience in diverse communities, particularly Latino and/or African American communities, are strongly encouraged to apply. Spanish language fluency is strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate Mobile Tour logistics: for example, managing the public, private, and call center appointment calendars, overseeing invitations to community partners, etc.;

Perform research on Mobile tour history to assist in big-picture planning of annual MobileBooth tours;
-
Build relationships with public radio station partners and other Mobile tour hosts in advance of each MobileBooth visit;
-
Travel to each tour location in advance of the MobileBooth; plan and facilitate meetings with the host station partner, community partners, and other affiliated parties;

Train and supervise Mobile Facilitator, Outreach Coordinator and Interns, including setting professional expectations, assigning work, evaluating performance, and other supervisory tasks;

Implement outreach strategies to engage diverse community organizations and encourage their participation in StoryCorps at Mobile stops;

Collaborate with other StoryCorps departments to oversee MobileBooth logistics and maintain up to date MobileBooth-related policies and procedures;

Support the Manager, Mobile and field-based Mobile Site Supervisor in day-to-day operations of the department;

Represent StoryCorps to the public, media, community based organizations, and other project partners;

Perform other tasks to support the Mobile department, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree;
-
Minimum 2 years' experience in managing logistics, with strong multi-tasking and organizational skills and attention to detail;
-
Minimum 1 year experience working in diverse communities, including conducting outreach and engagement activities;
-
Minimum 1 year experience supervising staff;
-
Ability to travel one week per month regularly, and for approximately two weeks per month on a quarterly basis;
-
Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, and public speaking skills;
-
Strong research skills;
-
Proactive problem-solving skills, and the ability to be flexible and adaptable to a growing, changing, fast-paced organizational environment;

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; excellent collaboration and conflict resolution skills;

Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software;
-
Proficient driving skills and a valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
-
Fluency in Spanish language, both orally and in writing (strongly preferred);

Proficiency on a Mac platform;
-
Knowledge of public radio community.
