Background:
Ohio Grantmakers Forum (OGF) is a regional association of
foundations, corporate contributions programs and other grantmaking
organizations. Its mission is to provide leadership for organized
philanthropy in Ohio and to enhance the ability of members to fulfill
their charitable goals. Incorporated in 1984, OGF is a 501(c)(3)
organization headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, with a regional office
(serving northeast Ohio) located in Cleveland.
Position Summary:
The Vice President, Education provides leadership, vision and
oversight to the
Education Team by directing the development and implementation
all statewide and regional programming, and manages the delivery of
programs and services in the Northeast Ohio office. This is a full-time
exempt position that reports to the President and is based in the
Cleveland office.
Primary Responsibilities:
Statewide Education Development and Oversight
- Directs the Education Team to develop and deliver core
competency, regional, and other programming; serves as liaison to
constituency directors
- Oversees the implementation of program delivery
throughout the state
- Develops process to evaluate programming and learning by
members
- Prepares budgets for the Education Team; receives and
analyzes reports on education revenues and expenditures
Northeast Ohio Programs and Services
- Staffs the Northeast Ohio Advisory Committee
- Delivers programs and meetings for grantmakers on issues
of general importance in Northeast Ohio
- Develops promotional materials for Northeast Ohio
programs and meetings
- Responds to requests for information from member
organizations in Northeast
Ohio
- Supports meetings of funder special interest groups;
fosters consensus;
facilitates their volunteer leadership; and nurtures their
growth and mutual
learning
- Identifies opportunities for convening community
stakeholders around
programmatic issues
- Coordinates electronic communication for NE OH
- Staffs and/or oversees special projects in the region
Membership Recruitment and Retention
- Plans local events and activities aimed at retaining and
recruiting OGF members in Northeast Ohio
- Meets with Northeast Ohio members and prospective members
to discern their
needs and areas of expertise and interest
- Works with Vice President of Administration on Member
Engagement Assessment (MEA) analysis
Representation
- As directed, represents philanthropy in the broader
Northeast Ohio community;
undertakes speaking engagements; interacts with media; serves on
community
committees; attends events as appropriate
- Builds and maintains strong working relationships with
key partners
- Participates, along with other OGF staff, in building
relationships between
grantmakers and local media in order to facilitate greater
understanding and
coverage of corporate and foundation philanthropy
Management and General
- Supervises the work of other Northeast Ohio office
staff
- Prepares annual budget for OGF’s education
activities
- Serves on the OGF Leadership Team
- Oversees educational programming work of other OGF
staff
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to understand the complexity and importance of
relationship building in a membership organization; identify member
needs; coalesce ideas;
motivate and support volunteer leadership
- Good interpersonal skills with strong service
orientation
- Attention to detail, ability to produce high quality work
products
- Communicate effectively in a variety of settings and
styles
- Work collaboratively in a team environment
- High comfort level in managing several tasks
simultaneously
- Experience planning workshops, seminars, and other adult
learning experiences
- Specific knowledge of Northeast Ohio issues
- 5-10 years experience in philanthropy and/or the
nonprofit sector or membership association
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; excellent listener
- Ability to travel
- Good conceptual and problem solving skills
- College graduate; advance degree
