Harlem Children's Zone - Prospect Research Associate, Development
Harlem Children’s Zone is seeking an experienced and committed Prospect Research Associate to join the agency’s dynamic and fast-paced Development department. The Prospect Research Associate is responsible for proactive and responsive research, and is an integral part of a professional Development team. The successful candidate will have an inquisitive mind and the ability to distill complex information into clear, well-written documents for our front-line giving officers and senior administration. This position reports to the Director of Major Gifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide research services in support of Development fund-raising activities and priorities
- Exercise independent judgment and experience, conduct proactive and reactive research on prospective donors
- Utilize internet and subscription research tools/resources to locate, analyze and interpret financial capacity and propensity, including compensation information, stocks/options and retirement plans, property transactions, and philanthropic interests
- Prepare written reports including biographical and business information, financial assets, areas of interest and philanthropic support, and affiliations
- Determine appropriate content of prospective donor profiles for high-level review
- Collaborate with fundraisers and staff to provide research-based analysis to assist with cultivation/solicitation strategies
- Assist in identifying potential new prospects for campaign priorities
- Maintain Raiser’s Edge database specific to prospect research
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to use development databases, particularly Raiser's Edge
- Experience using online services (e.g. Wealth Engine, PRO, Lexis Nexis, etc.), internet, and other data sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
- Ability to read financial documents, including, SEC documents
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills, including strong written and verbal skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail
- Prior campaign experience helpful
