The Grants Officer will serve as an experienced grant writer and development professional. Independently and in collaboration with program leaders, the Officer will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward foundation, corporation and public agency funders. The Officer will manage a portfolio of funders and prospects, with an emphasis on securing support for new projects and from new sources. The Officer will craft, construct, and submit effective proposals, reports and funder communications. He/she will lead and motivate teams to develop proposals for complex and major initiatives (such as large, multi-year, multi-departmental projects) to sophisticated funding opportunities and sources. The Officer is part of a four-person institutional giving team within the Aquarium's 25 member development and membership department.
Required: Bachelor's Degree, Masters Degree a plus; Minimum three years of experience in grant writing and institutional fundraising in at least one of the Aquarium's program areas: education, conservation research, policy or exhibits; Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding grants and partnerships with corporations, national foundations and government agencies; Experience collaborating with senior management and program staff and working in a complex organization to develop funding proposals and strategies; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects under tight deadlines; Proficient in word, excel, data base (preferably Raiser's Edge); Experience with federal grant process, such as National Science Foundation, Institute of Museum and Library Services, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, and with sophisticated foundations.
