Asian Cultural Council and Trust for Mutual Understanding - Accounting Manager

Asian Cultural Council: Established in 1980, the Asian Cultural Council is a foundation supporting cultural exchange in the visual and performing arts between the United States and Asia, and between the countries of Asia. Headquartered in New York City, the ACC maintains offices in Hong Kong, Manila, Taipei, and Tokyo. Its geographic purview includes an extensive area of Asia, ranging from Afghanistan to Japan. Position: To manage all aspects of accounting and financial reporting services for ACC New York and the Asian Offices (Hong Kong, Manila, Taipei and Tokyo]. Reporting to the Senior Manager-Finance/Operations, with dotted line to Executive Director. the successful candidate will either have a significant experience in accounting and financial reporting or be a CPA ready to move on to a new challenge. Prior experience with not for profit organizations would be a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities: Performs all accounting/bookkeeping tasks to ensure that ACC's financial activities operate consistently and ethically and are recorded and processed in a timely fashion. This includes:

  • General Ledger activity
  • Grant Ledger activity
  • Donation Ledger activity
  • Accounts payable and receivable
  • Invoice payments and check processing
  • Review of expense reports (both domestic and int'l staff)
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Bank transfers/wires

Other duties include:

  • Prepares monthly financial reports for Executive Director
  • Prepares financial reports for Investment and Executive Committees and for Board of Trustees
  • Assists Senior Finance Manager in audit preparation and works with auditors to complete annual audit
  • Assists in the preparation of annual budget
  • Ensures that all tax filings [1099/1042/990] are prepared and submitted timely.
  • Assists in the installation, maintenance and updating of financial control systems and new office policies in accordance with recommendation from auditors and new legislation to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and transparency of the ACC's financial operations.

Personal: High degree of personal and professional integrity; attention to detail, timeliness and accuracy; confidentiality in all aspects of the financial and operating activities of the office.

Compensation: $40,000-$50,000+ per year plus full benefits including medical, dental, vision and transit. A 401K plan will begin after six months of employment.
