The Vera Institute of Justice is a private, nonprofit organization that combines expertise in research, demonstration projects, and technical assistance to help leaders in government and civil society improve the systems people rely on for justice and safety. The Guardianship Project is an innovative demonstration project established to provide model guardianship services to people adjudicated incapacitated by the courts. The project serves a culturally diverse population in Manhattan and Brooklyn and employs a range of professionals including social workers, lawyers, investigators, and financial managers who work as a team to provide efficient and effective service and advocacy. The project's mission is to provide guardianship through the least restrictive means, giving as much independence and self-determination to the individual as possible.
Responsibilities
The project seeks a smart, flexible, enthusiastic person with good people skills to assist the Director and the Staff Attorney with coordinating the operations of the project, conducting the project's legal practice, and serving as a contact person for the project. The Project Analyst will help manage relationships with community organizations and individuals, conduct data gathering and reporting, and work on special projects.
Qualifications
- College graduate.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to be diplomatic when communicating with a wide variety of project contacts.
- Strong work ethic, highly organized, and able to work flexibly and under pressure.
- Must have an extensive knowledge of and demonstrable experience with Word and Excel programs.
- Experience working with the elderly and those with disabilities is desirable.
- Bilingual skills, especially English/Spanish, desirable.
- Experience working in legal or social services environment desirable.
- Final candidates will be subject to a criminal and financial background check.
Schedule
Regular program office hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, some evening and weekend hours may be required, depending on needs of the clients and the project.
Salary: Low to mid $30's, depending on experience. Excellent benefits.
