SoBRO - Development Assistant
The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO) one of the nation's oldest, largest and most successful inner city community development agenciesis seeking an individual to assist in our programmatic and general support fundraising activities with foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
SoBRO's programs include spurring economic development, building affordable housing, adult education, workforce development, helping at-risk youth to succeed, and producing other positive outcomes for South Bronx residents and employers.
The Development Assistant will be responsible for the administrative and communication aspects of development activities as they pertain to proposal preparation, donor and public relations, direct mail and electronic appeals, and special events. The position offers potential to grow and take on more responsibilities. Specific tasks include:
- Assisting in the preparation, coordination and packaging/mailing of grant proposals and narrative and financial reports to funders;
- Providing support for special events as needed including day-of support, mailings, and event coordination;
- Conducting written and verbal communications with corporate, foundation, and individual donors;
- Maintaining and updating Development Department Donor Database;
- Preparing media and marketing materials for distribution; updating website, as necessary;
- Conducting preliminary research on prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors;
- Coordinating the production and e/mailing of appeal letters (electronic and snail mail)
- Keeping track of and purchasing supplies for the department;
- Maintaining department files; and
- Special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Interest/experience in non-profit work and community development.
- Excellent computer skills (Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, database management experience–Raiser's Edge preferred).
- Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently & within a team, organize and prioritize work and multi-task.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure.
- Associate or bachelor degree in a related field, preferred.
- Prior experience in development or administrative capacity.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
Location: Office is accessible just one quarter block from the #2 and #5 subway trains in the heart of the South Bronx's commercial district.
Salary: $30,000-$35,000
