Boat People SOS, Inc. (BPSOS) is a national community-based organization serving primarily Vietnamese-American refugees and immigrants with program ranging from community development to legal services. Through its 15 locations, BPSOS provides a web of services to support individuals, families, and communities.
Boat People SOS, Inc. (BPSOS) seeks 2 paralegals to support and expand its legal assistance to survivors of Hurricane Ike. These are temporary positions for 1 year.
Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications, plus benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal, record and title research in support of project attorneys;
- Assist in drafting legal documents, complaints, letters and contracts for attorneys;
- Organizing and tracking cases;
- Filing court documents
- Coordinate with other Ike Disaster Relief staff for seamless client services
Goals:
- Clients receive effective, quality service in a timely, professional manner; and
- BPSOS is well-represented among public and private agencies;
Requirements:
- Paralegal certification; will provide training for exceptional candidates
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with immigrant populations
- English and Vietnamese fluency preferred; and
- Bicultural background preferred.
