Link Media, Inc. - Director of Development

Link Media, via the Link TV national network and www.linktv.org, presents programs that engage, educate and activate viewers to become involved in the world. These programs provide a unique perspective on international news, current events, and diverse cultures, presenting issues not often covered in the US media. We connect viewers with people at the heart of breaking events, organizations in the forefront of social change and the cultures of an increasingly global community.

Working closely with Link Media's COO, the Director of Development will oversee Link's philanthropic fund development activities. Link currently receives most of its funding from private foundations, with the rest coming from individuals. The primary responsibilities of the development director include coordination of Link's individual and institutional donor activities, writing proposals to institutional funders and funder prospects, and researching new institutional sources of support. The Director of Development will manage a staff of three. The position provides a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a talented individual to work with an energetic, diverse team in a dynamic environment of broadcast and new media innovation on behalf of social good. The development director has a rare opportunity to grow a small but talented fundraising operation for an organization that is seeking to go to scale over the next 36 months.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Passion about Link Media's mission.
  • Minimum 6 years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience that includes significant foundation experience.
  • Familiarity with media funders a big plus; or funders in human rights, environmental, international, and/or progressive issues.
  • Proven experience interacting productively with program officers, as well as writing successful large proposals and reports to foundations.
  • Management experience.
  • Proven computer literacy; facility with MS Office apps and contact management systems such as Salesforce or Act! required; experience with Raiser's Edge or comparable donor management software a big plus.
  • Ability to organize, manage and utilize large amounts of information.
  • Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create and sustain strong, positive working relationships with donors and staff.
  • Ability to devise, manage and complete complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail; scrupulous about their own work and the work of their subordinates.
  • Excellent phone manner and ability to speak compellingly to donors.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports.
  • High-dollar individual experience a plus.
  • Background in journalism, literature or other writing profession a big plus.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field or discipline.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience; full time includes health, dental, commuter and 401K benefits.
