Grand Street Settlement - Senior AmeriCorps Director

Responsible for the overall functioning of the Community Builders and Capacity Builders programs. Oversee, manage and provide day-to-day supervision, mentoring, and support of AmeriCorps members' developmental and social services needs.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree required; Master's Degree preferably
  • Familiarity of the New Yorkers Volunteer at the State Commission on National & Community Service
  • Minimum of five years of professional work experience in human services, education or community services, including program planning and development, budget development and monitoring, contract management, program evaluation and analysis of data, and report writing;
  • Minimum of five years experience supervising members at multiple sites, projects and personnel.;
  • Demonstrate the ability and experience in areas such as grant management, training, team building, problem solving, and community building;
  • Familiarity with Lower East Side and Bushwick community based agencies, support services and resources;
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively balance and integrate task-oriented and process-oriented responsibilities;
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and facilitation skills;
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership Management

  • Supervise 2 staff directly and 1 indirectly;
  • Review and revise work plan, as needed;
  • Review and modify approved budget on a quarterly basis;
  • Review job performance on a quarterly basis;
  • Provide continues mentoring and coaching

Program Management:

  • Recruit, manage and retain on an annual basis, a team of 60 plus part-time individuals to serve as Americorps members as capacity builders.
  • Ensure that 80% of members complete required 375 to 900 hours of service.
  • Ensure that all new members receive both a pre-service training and a post-service training.
  • Ensure that all members and staff participate in all of AmeriCorps events (i.e. kickoff)
  • Conduct monthly meetings with all site supervisors to ensure that they are adhering to and supporting all AmeriCorps performance measurements (i.e. adequate supervision, completing timesheets and performance evaluation, assisting with providing additional professional training for their perspective members)
  • Maintain grant requirements including, quarterly progress reports, monthly and quarterly financial reports, as well as required member reporting
  • Attend mandatory Program Directors, Program Coordinators and Senior Manager's meetings

Member Development:

  • Ensure that members continue to receive the essential training needed to perform service duties.
  • Ensure that member are knowledgeable on the mission of the AmeriCorps program
  • Track and provide a quarterly report to supervisor as to where members are at with their service hours.
  • Coordinate monthly community service projects that will ensure volunteerism with members and individuals from the community and within GSS.
  • Conduct monthly reflection meetings with members in a smaller setting to ensure that you get feedback on how members are doing and as to what kind of support we can provide them to enhance their AmeriCorps experience.
  • Ensure that all members receive at least 3 performance evaluations per service year (All performance evaluation must be reviewed by the Chief Program Officer prior to documenting it in members' files).
  • Implement a plan to ensure that members that are struggling with performing their hours are given the support and guidance needed to complete hours
  • Conduct weekly site visits where members are assigned
  • Conduct weekly mandatory meetings with all members.

Professional Development:

  • Attend any approved or recommended trainings and/ or conferences that will support program continuity as well as individual professional growth as a manager.
  • Special assignments as needed
