Frey Chair for Family Foundations and Philanthropy

The Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University is announcing an opening for the first Frey Foundation Chair for Family Foundations and Philanthropy. In this position, you will work closely with a national advisory committee and/or a pool of identified national advisors to keep the programs of research and teaching relevant to the field of family philanthropy. This position will be appointed as a member of the faculty of the School of Public and Nonprofit Administration and will be either tenure or non-tenure track depending upon the individual circumstances of the selected candidate.

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree required, Ph.D. preferred
• Five or more years experience in senior level roles in philanthropic organizations such as a trustee, staff, or advisor for family foundations preferred
• Record of scholarship in the field of family philanthropy including publication in related scholarly, philanthropic, public administration, or business journals preferred
• Research, writing, teaching, and communications skills preferred
• Proven ability to work across organizational lines and in a team-oriented setting
• Willingness to travel and to locate in western Michigan

Responsibilities:

• Implement a program of research that will define the knowledge base of family philanthropy and publish the results in both learned and practitioner-focused media
• Devise programs of executive education through symposia and classes in The Grantmaking School to enhance the performance of family foundations donors, trustees, staff, and advisors
• Teach in the graduate program at the University's School of Public and Nonprofit Administration
• Forge partnerships with key internal and external constituencies
