United States Holocaust Memorial Museum - Grant Writer (Part-Time/Consultant)

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum inspires citizens and leaders worldwide to confront hatred, promote human dignity, and prevent genocide. A public-private partnership, federal support guarantees the Museum's permanence, and its far-reaching educational programs and global impact are made possible by donors nationwide. Located adjacent to the National Mall in Washington, DC, the Museum strives to broaden public understanding of the history of the Holocaust and contemporary genocide through multifaceted programs: exhibitions; research and publication; collecting and preserving material evidence, art and artifacts related to the Holocaust; annual Holocaust commemorations known as Days of Remembrance; and distribution of education materials and teacher resources. For more information, please visit our website: www.ushmm.org

The grant writer is responsible for drafting LOIs, grant proposals, updates, progress reports, written and online funding applications, and other descriptive materials, working in close cooperation with Development and Program colleagues. The Grant Writer may also be called upon to conduct prospect research and maintain a calendar of proposal and reporting deadlines. The position requires a bachelor's degree and 3-4 years of professional writing experience. Previous experience as a grant writer for a non-profit organization is desirable. Outstanding written and oral communications skills and the ability to write clear, structured, and persuasive proposals are mandatory.

The successful candidate must be outgoing and poised, attentive to detail, organized, able to work independently while juggling multiple projects and deadlines, and above all, a team player. S/he must be able to work under pressure, be Internet savvy and experienced with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.

Applicants from outside the District of Columbia metro area are welcome to apply.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and two writing samples (one long, one short) to Jennifer Schmidt. EOE
