Reboot is an innovative network dedicated to helping a new generation explore and redefine Jewish identity, community, and meaning. Its participants (dubbed "Rebooters") comprise a network made up of the country's leading young creatives, activists, academics and entrepreneurs— founders of the websites Flickr.com, Meetup.com and Moveon.org; creators and senior staff writers of the television shows such as Weeds, Gossip Girl, Will & Grace, and Six Feet Under; the presidents of record labels such as V2, Barsuk, and Vagrant; editors of magazines and periodicals such as Fader, McSweeney's, Urb and ReadyMade; best-selling authors; New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal and San Francisco Chronicle journalists; community organizers; creative Jewish academics; non-profit leaders; and more.
Reboot fosters collaborations that create books, records, films, salons, events, and other organizing strategies to engage young Jews, the larger Jewish community, and the world. Reboot's annual summits and ongoing projects have attracted some of North America's brightest young minds.
The Director of Development will be responsible for all fundraising initiatives, including the development/execution of annual and long-term campaigns, identification of individual & foundation prospects and the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors. We seek an individual who has a passion for Reboot's mission and an unbridled enthusiasm for the thrill and perils of raising money.
This full-time position is based in New York City but requires frequent travel to Reboot's offices in Massachusetts and California, as well as other travel as necessary.
Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Meet and exceed fundraising goals by developing and implementing effective short and long-term campaigns
- Research, identify and cultivate new funders compatible with Reboot's mission
- Liaise with program staff to produce compelling reports on Reboot achievements for existing and prospective funders
- Engage and support Board members to enhance Reboot's funding efforts
- Hire and supervise the Grants Manager in the research of prospective funders and the writing of effective grant proposals
- Stay closely attuned to the Jewish philanthropic community in order to identify and capitalize on all funding opportunities that might support new and existing programs.
Qualifications: Strong candidates for this position will have:
- 3 - 5 years of progressively more responsible fundraising experience, with demonstrated successes, particularly with foundations
- Superior written and oral communication skills and attention to detail, combined with a highly organized and professional work style
- Connections to or familiarity with Jewish foundations and agencies
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of staff, Board members, and stakeholders
- Experience in the implementation of systems for accurate, clear and timely reporting to funders and the simplification of grant writing proposals
- Commitment to and passion for the mission of Reboot
- Results-oriented and driven with an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising and problem-solving
- A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
