Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America - Director of Scholar Support

Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA), a non-profit organization based in New York City seeks to diversify leadership in America by redressing the inequality of higher educational opportunity for low-income high school students currently under-represented at the nation's top colleges and universities. Each year LEDA recruits juniors of exceptional academic and leadership potential to apply to the program. A cohort of students is then chosen as Advantage Testing LEDA Scholars to attend an intensive seven-week Summer Institute hosted by Princeton University, instructed in a rigorous leadership curriculum, and provided with standardized testing preparation, writing instruction, and comprehensive college advising LEDA Scholars then return to their respective high schools for their senior years, during which time LEDA staff members guide them through the process of seeking admission to the country's most selective institutions of higher learning. Following acceptance and matriculation in college, LEDA staff support scholars during their college experience and through the transition after graduation. Position Overview:

Reporting to the Executive Director, The Director of Scholar Support is responsible for supporting and tracking of LEDA scholars who have successfully completed the program and are currently attending college

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain a database of information on LEDA Scholars
  • Maintain ongoing communication with LEDA scholars and track their progress in college.
  • Using social networking tools, identify and implement strategies for LEDA scholars to communicate
  • Generate reports on outcomes of LEDA scholars
  • Identify and provide post-graduate resource support to LEDA Scholars including assistance with graduate school admissions and career counseling
  • Organize and lead cluster meetings with LEDA scholars around the country
  • Liaise with colleges and universities to provide ongoing support
  • Network with LEDA alums to facilitate regional LEDA meetings
  • Provide support to LEDA scholars during the residential summer institute at Princeton University
  • Provide support as needed to other LEDA program activities including College Guidance, Recruitment and Operations

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to youth mentoring/student support services
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft ACCESS, social networking tools, or other database applications
  • Experience managing education/youth programs
  • Self-starter who is able to work collaboratively as a member of a team as well as independently when necessary
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required
