Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship - Development Associate, Part-Time

The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) provides entrepreneurship programs to young people from low-income communities. NFTE's goal is that every young person from a Chicago low-income community will have access to NFTE's program to engage them in school, expose them to the market economy and help to create an entrepreneurial mindset in order to remain competitive in the increasingly global marketplace. NFTE is widely viewed as a world leader in entrepreneurship education. To date, NFTE has worked with over 280,000 young people and currently operates programs in 22 states and 12 countries, and has more than 1,500 active Certified Entrepreneurship Teachers. NFTE is an IRS approved 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.

NFTE Chicago, one of eleven NFTE program offices in the United States, was established in May 2003 and successfully launched a partnership with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). NFTE's curriculum has been adopted as the lead business curriculum within CPS. During the 2008-2009 academic year we reached 2,100 students, bringing our cumulative total to over 9,000 young people served to date.

NFTE's strategy for achieving our mission is to:

Because of NFTE Chicago's significant reach and program expansion opportunities, NFTE Chicago is hiring a part-time Development Associate to assist the Development Team with activities related to fundraising, stewardship, special events, as well as, office management.

Position Summary:

The Development Associate will work closely with NFTE Chicago's Executive Director and Director of Development. The Development Associate will be responsible for assisting the team with administrative tasks, office management and accounting, prospect research, proposal and stewardship writing, donor correspondence, and special cultivation events.

Responsibilities:

  • Process all donations; receive and input donation information.
  • Generate acknowledgements for all gifts to donors. Work with Director of Development to ensure that protocols for gift acknowledgements are maintained at all gift levels.
  • Perform regular maintenance in the Raiser's Edge database, including updating donor records, meeting notes, etc.
  • Prepare weekly donation reports, as well as, prepare donor analysis reports.
  • Respond to donor's requests for information in a timely manner.
  • Assist in coordination of event logistics: i.e. Annual fundraising event, RSVP's and preparation for board meetings and other donor related events.
  • Conducting prospect research.
  • Order and update supplies for NFTE Chicago office.
  • Work with Executive Director and team to coordinate staff management systems including: team meetings, recognitions of team and board, annual staff and board retreat, national conferences and meetings.
  • Participate in program meetings, teacher trainings, sales calls, special projects and regular staff meetings, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum three - five years experience in a business/professional environment required.
  • Strategic planning and implementation as well as project management experience.
  • Previous experience using donor management system (Raiser's Edge) and donor research tools preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively, display leadership and organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Customer service orientation.

The Development Associate position is part-time and reports to the Director of Development.
