Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Deputy Director, Development is to assist in implementing EHTP’s fundraising efforts with particular emphasis on Major Gifts and individuals, including volunteers, trustees and other (individual) contributors. Efforts will include but are not limited to the coordination of the Annual Appeal, EHTP’s Annual Benefit, prospect research, and major donor fundraising. The Deputy Director, Development also manages EHTP’s Junior Board and will play an important role in integrating our $25 million capital campaign to build a 65,000 square foot headquarters with annual major donor efforts.

Responsibilities of the Deputy Director, Development will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Director, Campaign and Major Gifts in integrating the capital campaign and major gifts
  • Support the Executive Director and Director of Development and Communications as an additional fundraising liaison with individuals, particularly Leadership volunteers (EHTP Board of Trustees, Junior Board, Leadership Council)
  • Oversee the management of the fundraising database—Raiser’s Edge 7
  • Act as a key member of the Development and Communications team, undertaking a leadership role in stewarding gifts, correspondence, and supporting the activities of the Junior Board
  • Assist in all aspects of prospecting, event planning and communications, including management of vendors, committee members’ coordination, and planning and assisting in the execution of meetings and activities in support of EHTP’s Annual Benefit and other special events
  • Work closely with members of the Board and the Fund Development Committee, providing information and documents prior to the meetings and follow-up after
  • Manage the tracking and assessment of progress toward annual funding goals (e.g. dashboards, quarterly reports)
  • Supervise and manage Coordinator, Development

Education Background and Work Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree in a related field preferred

  • 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising preferred; at least one of which includes management experience
  • Experience with annual campaigns, sponsorships, fundraising research, and/or direct communication with donors and volunteers

Education Background and Work Experience:

  • Exceptional writing (both creative and analytical) and editing skills, as well as excellent organizational and research skills
  • Strong public speaking skills and comfort addressing a wide-variety of audiences
  • Strong knowledge and experience using Raiser’s Edge 7
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to establish priorities and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously, multi-task and meet deadlines consistently
  • Strong management and supervisory skills
  • Belief in East Harlem Tutorial Program’s mission, education model and core values

Compensation:

Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition, EHTP offers a comprehensive benefits package.
