The ideal candidate will have the unique opportunity to lead, plan, and implement strategic growth and to passionately promote Metropolis Ensemble’s mission and vision.
Organization: In three short years, Metropolis Ensemble has established a reputation as a leader in the urban classical music scene in New York City and beyond. A professional chamber orchestra dedicated to emerging composers and performers, Metropolis Ensemble performs to capacity crowds, attracting young, diverse urban audiences by promoting an atmosphere of openness, discovery, and excitement about the process of creating and performing new music. Metropolis Ensemble engages audiences through concert events and fosters the creation and dissemination of new music through commissioning, recording, and educational outreach to students and adults.
Position Description: The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission, financial objectives and timely progress towards its long-range goals. Key areas of focus include:
- Developing annual goals that are in line with our strategic plan
- Facilitating Board relations and development
- Growing a sustainable local, national, and international funding base
- Financial budgeting and control; ensuring compliance with applicable laws
- Collaborating closely with the organization’s Artistic Director, Marketing Director, member musicians, a small part-time production staff, and interns
- Recruiting and supervising of staff and interns
Experience and Candidate Profile: Metropolis Ensemble seeks an Executive Director with the ability to innovate, take a leadership role in planning and implementing strategic organizational growth and development and realizing ambitious goals. The skills, experience, and mind-set of the ideal candidate include:
- Five or more years of management experience (nonprofit and arts experience a plus)
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, both institutional and with individual stakeholders
- Strong financial management and budget development skills
- Proven ability to implement the strategic goals and mission of an organization
- Well-developed understanding of digital media, publicity, and trends in the field
- High achieving self-starter, comfortable in flexible and changing work environment
- Committed to cultivating an appreciation of music, and all creative arts, as living forms, continuously renewed.
- Exceptional writing and communications skills
Salary:
Half-time position
Salary range: $35,000-$40,000 depending on experience
