Mile High Youth Corps - Water Conservation Crew Leader
Summary: Responsible for the daily supervision of 18-24 year old Corpsmembers. Responsibilities include building positive relationships with Corpsmembers, providing consistent opportunities for leadership development, as well as safety and project oversight. This position manages crews that deliver water-conservation measures to low-income residents, community-based organizations and other MHYC clients in the Denver metro area.

Essential Functions
Supervision & Management
-
Provide daily supervision of the members of his/her crew on work projects, including assigning, leading and instructing work tasks and training Corpsmembers in the development of job skills.

Teach Corpsmembers a variety of work skills in conjunction with technical assistance providers.

Substitute for other Crew Leaders as needed.
-
Maintain and promotes positive group morale.

Enforce the code of conduct, discipline policies and program procedures outlined in the employee handbooks at all times.
-
Provide consistent, ongoing informal feedback, as well as performs (at least) one formal evaluation per Corpsmember each season, acknowledging both strengths and areas of improvement.

Serve as a positive role model to Corpsmembers (in all aspects, including communication and appropriate boundaries) and promote a positive corps culture.

Utilize a solution-focused communication style with Corpsmembers and staff.
Corpsmember Development & Education
-
Promote individual learning, leadership and personal growth among Corpsmembers; encourage problem-solving and teamwork.

Work closely with the Program Manager: Education and Training to develop educational components to service projects, including development of the Friday schedule and curriculum.

Plan and facilitate field trips, community meetings, Independent Service Learning Projects, and team-building activities.
-
Ensure consistent leadership development and service learning opportunities are integrated into trainings.

Monitor Corpsmember participation and progress throughout the 6 core training areas; assess and support Corpsmember goals toward education and career placement.

Provide consistent feedback and support to Water Conservation Corpsmembers on their development.

Assist with recruiting, interviewing and hiring of Corpsmembers.

Role model and facilitate open, supportive and direct communication regarding stress management tools as wells as appropriate professional conversation.
- Ensure Water Conservation Program Coordinator is kept aware of Corpsmember concerns, struggles or behavioral issues. Builds positive mentor relationships with Corpsmembers; focusing on respect and empowerment.

Support Corpsmember orientation planning and facilitation.
Work Project Implementation
-
Assist the projects staff with the set-up of the work schedule including the estimation of time and materials needed for installations.

Complete service and water-conservation projects throughout the Denver metro area.

Provide technical assistance for and installation of high-efficiency toilets (HETs).
-
Distribute work among Corpsmembers and maintain even workflow.
-
Train Corpsmembers in and maintain a safe work environment.
-
Monitor and advise Corpsmembers serving in leadership positions.
-
Proactively assess, identify, and mitigate safety related hazards on work projects. Ensure supervisor and Project Manager are kept aware of safety and health concerns.

Serve as a liaison and on-site contact with clients.
-
Ensure the timely, accurate and quality completion of work projects.
-
Oversee and support weekly logistics support.
Administrative Duties
-
Maintain integrity of all materials inventories by controlling the receiving, distribution, return and security of all products.
-
Maintain integrity of all MHYC physical assets, by controlling the distribution, return and security of all vehicles, tools, equipment and facilities.
-
Support Corpsmembers post-program placement.
-
Monitor, document, and evaluate the participant progress in the program using individual written evaluations, case notes, and 1:1 meetings.
-
Maintain thorough and complete records on each of his/her Corpsmembers throughout the length of the program, including timesheets, rosters and daily accountability forms.

Maintain complete and accurate files, including project data and records, and employment paperwork for each of his/her Corpsmembers.
-
Assist other staff with the reporting required for funders and board members.
-
Ensure timely completion of Corpsmember awards, incentives and recognitions.

Complete all project reports and project evaluations in a timely manner.
-
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. At least two years of college or vocational training is preferred. Significant professional experience in a related field may be substituted for post-secondary education.
Experience: At least one year of experience working with a diverse population of youth in a team atmosphere. One year water-conservation or construction experience required. Plumbing experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Communication Skills: ability to motivate and discipline others, organize and direct a crew of young people on work projects, communicate effectively with a diverse group of young people, co-workers and supervisors and explain and demonstrate safe work practices.

Keep accurate records; perform case management, evaluations, and prepare reports.

Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks in a detailed and timely manner.

Superior people skills, including good speaking and writing skills.

Ability to engage and build positive relationships with people from different backgrounds and demographics.

Ability to effectively communicate with residents and perform work projects in homes.

Ability to work independently and professionally.

Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record and ability to drive a 12-passenger van to and
from work sites.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Ability to use hand and power tools.

Knowledge of the Denver metro area preferred.

Must be able to legally work in the United States, which will be verified via the federal E-Verify program.
Hours & Compensation:
This is a full-time regular, exempt position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with education and experience; range is $26,000 to $30,000. Hours are Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required for corps-related functions.
