About the Division
The role of University Advancement (UA) is to provide a seamless and coordinated program of outreach that fosters strong relationships with internal and external partners, garnering the support necessary to fulfill the University's mission and accomplish its strategic goals. The mission of UA is to enhance the University's reputation, help build and strengthen its financial resources, and expand its network and influence through strategic communications and the engagement of internal and external stakeholders. UA has broad responsibilities - fundraising, communications/marketing, alumni relations, CSUN Foundation, and government and community relations, and operates in a model that requires and encourages collaboration with partners across campus.
Responsibilities
The Vice President for University Advancement is the chief strategist in seeking external philanthropic support for the University. The successful candidate reports to the President and will have responsibility for institutional advancement, annual and deferred giving, major gifts, alumni relations, community and donor relations, corporate and foundation relations, public relations, strategic communications, foundation accounting, and governmental affairs. The selected individual will also serve as President of the University Foundation. The University is in a period of rapid expansion of its fundraising potential, and this position plays a vital role in developing and/or enhancing long-term relationships between the University and a broad array of constituents and supporters of the University. The selected candidate will work closely with Vice Presidents and Deans to develop strategies and programs to effectively support units and the University as a whole. The Vice Preside nt works closely with the President in major fundraising efforts and, collaborates with advancement staff at the CSU Chancellor's Office with regard to current and projected advancement and communication priorities and strategies. The position serves as a member of the President's Cabinet and will play a major role in the University's leadership team by generating programs and obtaining additional resources that will enable continuing progress toward the University's objectives.
Qualifications
At minimum, a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the advancement and/or related field required. Experience with fundraising for higher education within a well established, comprehensive development program and experience in leadership of an effective public relations program or non-profit sector strongly desired. Understanding of the full spectrum of fundraising programs including annual programs, planned/deferred giving, grants development, and individual, corporate, and foundation gifts is a must. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent communication, managerial, and human relations skills to effectively represent the University to internal and external constituents, and to provide dynamic leadership and technical expertise to the University Advancement Division. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population, and a high level of personal integrity, diploma cy, discretion, and tact are necessary.
