Campaign Director, MGH Cancer Center

Massachusetts General Hospital
Boston, Massachusetts

Campaign Director, MGH Cancer Center, Massachusetts General Hospital

An integral part of one of the world’s most distinguished medical centers, the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center is chosen by more cancer patients than any other hospital in New England. Consistently ranked as one of the best in the country by US News and World Report, the Cancer Center’s commitment to eradicating cancer is fueled by scientific investigation conducted as part of the largest hospital-based research program in the United States. The Cancer Center is led by Daniel Haber, MD, PhD, an internationally renowned scientist recognized for his research in the genetics of cancer.

The MGH is currently in the planning stages of a major, ten-figure hospital-wide comprehensive campaign, in which the Cancer Center will be a central feature. The plans for the Cancer Center Campaign are well underway with an anticipated goal of $250–$350 million. In anticipation of this significant campaign, the MGH seeks a dynamic and experienced fundraising leader to serve as the Campaign Director for the Cancer Center.

In this newly created position, the Campaign Director will shape and lead the fund raising for one of the MGH’s central priorities — the Cancer Center. The Campaign Director will: work in close partnership with the Cancer Center Director Dr. Haber, the MGH Chief Development Officer Jim Thompson, and the MGH Executive Director of Development Katelyn Quynn; design, direct, and manage the $250–350 million Cancer Center Campaign; create and implement the strategy for the expansion and diversification of individual, foundation, and corporate philanthropy within the context of the Campaign; collaborate with, engage, and support the Cancer Center Director, the MGH Chief Development Officer, the MGH Executive Director of Development, esteemed physicians and scientists, staff, and high-level volunteers on diverse fund-raising initiatives; serve as a senior member of the well respected, stable MGH Development Office; lead and guide the Cancer Center development team and significantly expand his or her team of talented development professionals.

This role demands significant campaign leadership experience within a complex institution, ideally an academic medical center. Requirements: established track record of leading the design and expansion of philanthropic support from diverse constituencies, including grateful patients, friends, corporations, and foundations; experience raising support for cancer preferred; the integrity, stature, and proven ability to develop relationships with physicians and scientists; intellectual curiosity and capacity to elicit and quickly grasp scientific concepts and synthesize this information into an articulate case for support; ability to contribute positively to the MGH culture in which passion for the mission, dedication to excellence, collaboration, and mutual respect are guiding principles.
