Rainforest Alliance - Business Systems Developer
The Rainforest Alliance (RA) is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.
Position Summary:
The Business Systems Developer (BSD) will be responsible for writing custom programming code for Rainforest Alliance business systems, primarily developing custom coding solutions and support for our SalesForce instance. The BSD will be the primary source of coding for business systems and will assist with designing, building, testing, and implementing new solutions for SalesForce. The BSD will document ideas and code in a clear, comprehensive and organized manner.
Responsibilities:
SalesForce
- Under the supervision of the Business Systems Manager and working closely with the Business Systems Team, take system specifications and design, build, deliver, and support creative and innovative solutions and features by developing SalesForce.com functionality using the Force.com platform (e.g. Apex, S-Controls, VisualForce, Sites); establishing security protections; resolving and escalating integration issues; coordinating efforts among functional areas and outside vendors; recommending adjustments as objectives change; and clearly documenting actions;
- Contribute to Business Systems team by communicating essential information, obtaining expert input, reviewing open issues and action items and providing report contributions;
- The BSD will monitor appropriate blogs, conference attendance, and local user groups to stay current on latest releases;
- Ensure effective data integration between CRM system and other RA business systems.
General Business Systems Support
- Provide guidance and support to staff serving in roles for specific systems such as Sharepoint, Solomon (for accounting), Raisers Edge (for development), Eximware’s supply chain management tool (for Sustainable Agriculture), and all other division-specific databases;
- Trouble-shoot and resolve technical issues related to data management;
- Participate on various organizational projects to include planned Sharepoint implementation; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related degree required;
- SalesForce.com Certified Force.com developer preferred;
- Minimum 2-4 years experience required in SalesForce.com development including creating custom objects, workflows, S-Controls, Force.com and VisualForce development and the Apex programming language; Proficiency in SOQL, XML, Web APIs JavaScript, SQL, Java or C#, HTML, DHMTL/Ajax, CSS, SOAP-based web services and ASP/ASP.Net; aspx;
- Knowledge of enterprise systems architecture principles, systems development lifecycle, software testing methods, software quality assurance processes, software design methods, and software requirements development processes;
- Proven track record of successful implementations;
- Strength in systems thinking and nonprofit sector experience are highly valued;
- Knowledge of Microsoft desktop environment (Windows, Office and Access);
- Spanish or French language abilities a plus;
- Candidate must be highly motivated, proactive, and a team player;
- Strong organization and time management skills;
- Organized, detail-oriented, and determined to produce high-quality, on-time work; strong business process focus and skill;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills as applied in systems documentation, client meetings, and team interaction; and
- Ability to travel approximately 10 - 15%.
