Director of Development, Young Audiences of Maryland

Organization Background: Young Audiences of Maryland (YAMD) is a 57-year-old non-profit organization with a $950,000 budget and a staff of eight. Each year YAMD partners with 400 artists, schools and community organizations to deliver 2500 arts education experiences and reach 300,000 youth. Successful development activities are critical to YAMD’s operations; contributed income from individuals, foundations, corporations and government grants make up 40% of our budget. We offer a dynamic, challenging, and creative working environment. The right candidate can play a significant role in shaping the future of the organization.

The Director of Development will strengthen YAMD’s position in the funding community, and work closely with the Executive Director and volunteers to realize annual and long-term funding goals. S/he is responsible for the organization’s fundraising activities. S/he reports to the executive director.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Executive Director and fundraising committees of the board to develop and implement an annual fundraising plan.
  • Develop strategies and implement programs to enhance philanthropic support.
  • Write grant proposals, track grant awards, and coordinate progress reports.
  • Implement and manage donor database, donor files, development schedule and budget.
  • Research new grant opportunities.
  • Coordinate the production and mailing of annual appeals letters.
  • Assist in the creation, management, and implementation of an annual donor stewardship plan and annual fundraiser.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Education Director to develop, implement and report on grant-funded projects.
  • Develop formats and protocols for systematic tracking and reporting of research, donations and other pertinent data.
  • Assume other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years' senior management experience in not-for-profit fund development with successful track record in securing grants and individual gifts.
  • Comprehensive understanding of public and private fund development, annual campaign, budget management, and special events production.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and work collaboratively with board volunteers, donors and community organizations.
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and donor database software (experience with Donor Perfect preferred).
  • Creative, self-motivated team player.
  • Bachelor's degree a minimum requirement.

Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with that offered by similar organizations and with candidate’s qualifications.
