Brooklyn Public Library - Director of Corporate Giving
Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) seeks Director of Corporate Giving. BPL is an independent library system for the 2.5 million residents of Brooklyn. It is the fifth largest library system in the United States, with 60 neighborhood libraries located throughout the Borough of Brooklyn. BPL offers free programs and services for all ages and stages of life, including a large selection of books in more than 30 languages, author talks, literacy programs and public computers.
The Director of Corporate Giving will plan and implement strategy to maximize BPL’s financial support from corporations through sponsorships, grants, special events and in-kind giving. Reporting to BPL’s Chief Development Officer, the Director of Corporate Giving will be a key member of the Library’s development team and will manage a portfolio of corporate donors and prospects and cultivate new relationships.
Key responsibilities include: plan and implement strategic activities for identifying and cultivating corporate supporters/partners; prepare proposals and detailed budgets; manage personal portfolio of corporate prospects and key relationships for the Library; solicit potential contributors as appropriate; assist senior managers in identifying Board members and other Senior Executives with ability to reach new and current corporate donors; work closely with BPL’s Marketing and Communications Department to develop required collateral materials, advertisements and other forms of donor recognition; develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the business community in New York City with particular focus on Brooklyn-based businesses; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred; five or more years of fundraising experience with focus on securing corporate support; superior presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with diverse constituencies, such as corporate donors and Board members; excellent oral and written communication skills; respect for diversity and ability to function well in multicultural environment; and familiarity with Brooklyn communities.
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus.
