The Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco), an award-winning Bronx-based nonprofit housing and community development organization, seeks a Grant Writer to join its Development Department. WHEDco has worked for twenty years to build a more beautiful, equitable, and economically vibrant Bronx. We reach 35,000 people annually through energy-efficient, healthy and affordable homes, early childhood education and youth development, family support, home-based childcare microenterprise and food business incubation. Job Summary: The Grant Writer will be the primary developer of high quality grant proposals, reports, and other communications to WHEDco’s foundation and corporate foundation funders. S/he will help WHEDco secure funding from 60+ institutional funders each year and will also develop applications in response to government requests for proposals. S/he reports to the Institutional Gifts Manager and works closely with WHEDco’s Vice President of Development and External Affairs, Program Directors, Department of Research and Evaluation, and Fiscal Team. This is a full-time, in-house position.
Responsibilities include:

Writing high quality, persuasive grant proposals and reports to communicate with corporate, foundation and government funders for each of WHEDco’s five core programs – housing/community development, early childhood education and youth development, home-based childcare microenterprise training, family support services, and the arts

Researching and identifying new funding sources for WHEDco

Cultivating funder relationships for WHEDco, including setting up and participating in funder visits in coordination with the Vice President for Development and External Affairs, Institutional Gifts Manager, and Program Directors

Tracking foundation/corporate relationships, deadlines and gifts in funding database

Occasional writing and editing content for other WHEDco communications platforms
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree required
-
3 years of grant writing or other significant writing experience required

Experience in writing proposals for community development, housing , youth services and the arts desirable, but not required

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Track record of demonstrating professional judgment and discretion in being of service to multiple teams and senior managers in a diverse and multi-faceted organization

Exceptional initiative and proven ability to work efficiently and effectively in a collegial and fast-paced environment

Ability and willingness to handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines and pay strong attention to detail

Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team as well as independently

Ability and willingness to perform tasks with creativity and a sense of humor

A commitment to and understanding of WHEDco’s mission and values

Must be familiar with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Donor Perfect and graphic design software is a plus, but not required
