Director

Kenyon College Hillel
Gambier, Ohio

Executive Director, Kenyon College Hillel

Kenyon College seeks a visionary, dynamic Jewish professional to serve as Director of the Kenyon College Hillel. The director serves as the leader of Jewish life on the Kenyon College campus. He or she is responsible for meeting the religious, social, and informal Jewish educational needs for the Kenyon Jewish community, with a particular focus on the programs and services provided to students. He or she is the representative of Jewish presence on the Kenyon campus. The person in this position is a member of the Student Affairs Staff, reporting directly to the Dean of Students. In cooperation with other Student Affairs staff members, the Hillel Director shares an awareness of and concern for all aspects of each student's classroom, residential, and extracurricular life. Fundraising is not a major duty of this position.

Responsibilities include:

Jewish Education and Programming:

  • Promote and encourage a pluralistic approach to religious expression through Shabbat and a full range of holiday observances on campus, including High Holidays
  • Oversee programmatic aspects of Hillel's activities on campus
  • Oversee the operation of the Kenyon College Hillel facility and its student staff

Fiscal Management and Fund Development:

  • Oversee Hillel's fiscal operation through budget planning and management processes
  • Some participation in efforts to secure funding through grants and other development related activities

Community Relations:

  • Represent Hillel in interactions with key partners including students, board members, local Jewish community members, and other college staff

Qualifications: The ideal Director of the Kenyon College Hillel will have experience and skills related to dynamic community organizing and hold an advanced degree in Jewish Communal Services, Jewish Social Services, Jewish Education, Rabbinics, or a related field. The appointee must have an appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education, a love of learning, and a high degree of energy and enthusiasm. Sensitivity to the academic, personal, and religious needs of young adults is essential. The Director must also possess strong communication and organizational skills. Because no synagogues are nearby, rabbinic training and the ability to lead religious services and Jewish study sessions are very desirable.

Salary: Salary is competitive with a comprehensive benefits package.

Desired Start Date: July 1, 2006
