Jazz at Lincoln Center - Major Gift Officer

The ideal candidate would be an energetic self-starter with at least six to eight years of experience successfully developing and managing donor relationships and has a demonstrated track record of soliciting and closing gifts of $25,000 or more for restricted purposes. One to two years of planned giving experience is required. Capital campaign experience will be considered an asset in this position. College degree required. Some travel may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with JALC’s development staff and senior leadership to strategically plan and manage close relationships with major individual donors. Identifies prospective donors, writes correspondence and proposals as needed and successfully closes restricted and large annual fund gifts.
  • Responsible for achievement of short-term and long-term fundraising goals, specifically solicitations ranging from $25,000 to seven figure gifts annually and multi-year commitments in support of JALC. S/he will be responsible for developing a planned giving pipeline in conjunction with the Director of Individual Giving.
  • Work closely with JALC special events staff to execute major cultivation events. This includes the identification of potential guests, pre and post-event donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Utilizes and updates the organization’s donor database, entering activites and contacts with individuals on an ongoing basis and provides reporting as required.
  • Meet annual revenue goals for donors based within the region. (Revenue goal will be set annually in accordance with FY revenue budget). Solicit a minimum of 20 six-figure gifts from donors/prospects annually. Provide periodic progress reports of all activities.
  • Identify and cultivate new major donor prospects with a capacity of six figures or higher. Make 120 visits each year that result in forward progress toward the solicitation of a donor or prospect. Develop and execute cultivation strategies to recruit new prospects. In partnership with JALC’s board and senior leadership, support the cultivation and solicitation of 10 multi-year gift requests.
  • Devise and steward a Planned Giving strategy and identify, cultivate and solicit a portfolio of donors in this category. Solicit a minimum of 5 planned gifts.
  • Attend at least one professional development seminar per year focused on planned giving and gift solicitation.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of proven fundraising experience specifically in the solicitation of major gifts and at least one year of planned giving experience. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and solicit significant gifts in the six figure range. Experience working with board members in the cultivation of prospects.
  • Desire and ability to work within a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment. Strength in maintaining positive personal relationships with a wide variety of individuals, including corporate executives.
  • Experience using fundraising databases such as Raiser’s Edge and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications as well as skilled in making individual and group presentations.
  • Success in this position requires a person who is a self-starter and has the ability to work independently; s/he must have impeccable professional integrity and confidence. Success in this position is also dependant on the person having a deep interest in the JALC’s mission, being highly motivated, committed to teamwork and individual achievement, professional in demeanor, flexible, organized and forward-thinking.
  • Knowledge of capital campaigns and jazz music is a plus.
