Community Foundation CEO Survey: Transitions and Career Paths

PND Connections - Community Foundation CEO Survey: Transitions and Career Paths

Over the next two decades, most of the baby boomer generation will retire, leaving many nonprofit organizations seeking new leadership. TransitionGuides, a group of consultants that works with nonprofit organizations on leadership transitions, has conducted a study that examines how the coming wave of boomer retirements will affect the nation's community foundations. Community Foundation CEO Survey: Transitions and Career Paths (11 pages, PDF) finds that 55 percent of community foundation CEOs anticipate leaving their jobs in the next five years. Of that group, 27 percent plan to retire, while 29 percent expect to move to another position in the nonprofit sector. Sponsored by the Community Foundations CEO Network and the Council on Foundations, the study is part of an initiative funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation to better understand the issues related to executive transitions at nonprofits.
