Notes From the Road: A Report on Building Upper Midwest LGBT Communities
Connections - Notes From the Road: A Report on Building Upper Midwest LGBT Communities
Although still struggling with issues such as inequality and geographical isolation, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are actively engaged in building regional alliances, a report from the Philanthrofund Foundation finds. Based on conversations with local LGBT organizations and discussions at a national organizing and skills-building conference, Notes From the Road: A Report on Building Upper Midwest LGBT Communities (16 pages, PDF) offers a snapshot of the strengths of and challenges facing LGBT communities in the region. Funded by the Otto Bremer Foundation, the report highlights the need for better organizational infrastructure, including strategies for sharing resources, skills, and administrative functions; multiyear grants, fundraising training, and partnerships with local foundations; and a focus on social justice movement building.
