Philanthropy and Voluntarism
Giving in Arizona
Giving is on the rise in Arizona. A study of 504 residents, Giving in Arizona: 2004 Guide to Philanthropy (18 pages, PDF), published by the Arizona Community Foundation and Leave A Legacy Arizona, found that 81 percent of Arizonans made a financial contribution in 2004, compared to 75 percent in 1999. The average total contributions per respondent were $2,724, compared to $2,041 five years ago; and two-thirds of 2004 donors contributed three-fourths of their gifts within the state. Their top three causes remained the same in 2004 as in 1999: children and youth, the elderly, and the disabled.
