Although October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the campaign to educate women about breast cancer never ends. NBCAM, a coalition of seventeen national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies, works year-round to stress the importance of detecting the disease in its earliest stages through screening mammography, clinical breast examination, and, for women age twenty and older, breast self-examination. To further the group's mission, the NBCAM Web site provides information about the disease, screening procedures, treatment options, support groups for victims, and breast cancer resources on the Web. Visitors to the site can also learn about the importance of mammograms, find their local mammography center, and sign up for e-mail reminders.
