Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support, a global network of membership associations serving grantmakers and other philanthropic support organizations, has released two new volumes of case studies. The first, Philanthropy in a Global Community: Case Studies of Grantmaker Associations Around the World, features an introductory essay (5 pages, PDF) by Barry Gaberman, senior vice president of the Ford Foundation, about the value of grantmaker associations and their role in strengthening philanthropy. The volume's seven case studies cover a range of associations, including the emerging East Africa Association of Grantmakers and the multinational European Foundation Centre. The second volume, Case Studies of Organizations Supporting Community Foundations, focuses on the work of eight groups, including the Institute for the Development of Social Investment in Brazil and the Council of Michigan Foundations in the U.S. Individual chapters from both volume one and volume two can be downloaded in PDF format; the complete volume one (76 pages, PDF) is also available.
